Under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2004 , you have the right to ask to request any recorded information held by Huntingdonshire District Council.

The FOI Act does not give you the right to get personal information about yourself. This is covered by the Data Protection Act and you will need to request it via a Subject Access Request.

How do I get information?

Before you make an FOI request you should check whether the information is already available in one of the following places:

Open data page

We publish a range of information on our website, especially on the Open Data page , which links to information we are required to publish, such as the current organisational chart, salary bands for officers and the chief officers’ salaries and expenses. You can also view datasets from frequently asked FOI requests.

Publication scheme page

The FOI Act requires us to produce a Publication Scheme which lists all information that is currently published, the format in which it is available and any applicable charges. The aim of the scheme is to make information easy to find and quickly accessible to the public.

Can you refuse to provide me with information?

The FOI Act has a number of exemptions that allow us to withhold certain information. For example, we may withhold information relating to government policy or refuse to disclose information that would harm a criminal investigation or someone’s commercial interests.

See the Information Commissioner’s List of FOI Exemptions for more information.

How do I make an FOI request?

If the information that you require is not available via the above methods then you can request the information from us.

All requests must be made in writing and we have to respond to you within 20 working days. We will consider public interest and whether any of the requested information is exempt from disclosure.

If we estimate that it will take more than 18 hours to collate the data you request, we will contact you and ask you to refine the scope of your request so that it will take less than 18 hours. If you are not prepared to refine the scope of your request then, unfortunately, we will not be able to provide you with the information. You may be asked to pay a fee for expenses such as photocopying. If this is the case, we will let you know and the information will not be released until payment has been received.
