Huntingdonshire District Council is preparing a draft Design Guide and seeking views on the key issues that should be included.
The Design Guide sets out the important design principles and explains the main requirements that the council will want to see in any new development.
Good design contributes towards building a better Huntingdonshire and we are continually seeking to improve the quality of new development within the district. As part of that commitment we have updated our primary design guidance document.
Consultation on the draft Design Guide will run until 5pm on Monday 12 December 2016. Local residents, businesses, developers, architects and planners can all have their say on the draft guide.
Cllr Graham Bull, Executive Councillor for Planning Policy, Housing and Infrastrucutre said: "Huntingdonshire is a lovely part of the country with market towns, picturesque villages and unspoilt countryside. Although development and change cannot be ignored, we need to ensure that development is not at the expense of quality of life or environment.
"The aim of the Guide is to improve the quality of large or small new developments in Huntingdonshire by setting out important design principles and explaining the key requirements of the council. It has been designed as a manual to inform and inspire anyone with an interest in the development process and, once adopted, will be taken into account by the council when making planning decisions."
The Guide will provide advice to anyone who submits a planning application for development. It contains information on what we will expect to see in terms of standards of design and layout and will be used as a basis for pre-application advice. Applications that are inconsistent with the Guide are likely to be refused planning permission.
The Guide can be found on the Planning Consultation Portal. To submit comments you will need to be registered and logged in.
