Huntingdonshire District Council’s One Leisure team are celebrating reaching a significant milestone as they have now approved more than 500 members to the Concessionary Membership Scheme.
The Concessionary Membership Scheme, which was launched nearly three years ago to encourage more people across the district to access One Leisure facilities, has now supported more than 500 members despite disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cllr Simon Bywater, Executive Councillor for Community Resilience and Well-Being, said: "It is great to see so many residents taking steps to become more active. The scheme has enhanced the wellbeing of our communities and has made our One Leisure facilities more accessible for people who would not have used them before.
"Residents' priorities have changed during the pandemic, and health and wellbeing is now at the forefront of people's minds. Anything we can do to support and encourage our residents to become more active is beneficial for us all."
In order to qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet specified eligibility criteria, which could include being in receipt of income or employment related benefits, disability related benefits as well as those with degenerative neurological conditions. The scheme is not restricted to individuals as households could be eligible.
