DSM Dance with Lynne has been awarded £250 of Community Chest Grant funding to ensure the FitSteps FAB Strictly Dance Class can continue as a Warm Space throughout March.
DSM Dance with Lynne will use the funds to ensure all residents attending the class, which is offered free to newcomers as a 'Warm Space', can enjoy a hot drink each week to encourage socialisation after the session. The class is based in St Neots for ages 18-80 and is a low impact dance fitness class, with seated alternatives if required.
Founder of DSM Dance with Lynne, Lynne Otto, said: "DSM can now add free tea and coffee as part of our Cha Cha Chums initiative and continue into March. We encourage people to stay after dancing to have a chat and meet new people.
"We have had lots of women join who do not exercise regularly but they enjoy dancing. We are also adding our tone element to work on strength and balance which is so important as you get older.
"I'm really passionate about getting adults dancing in St Neots as it's not only a great way to get active but it’s particularly effective for mental health - it's 100% feel good fitness! It even works the brain as you are thinking about Latin and Ballroom choreography and coordination.
"I am looking forward to meeting new dancers every Wednesday at midday at The Priory Centre! Just turn up, wear trainers or similar and comfy clothes you can move in."
Executive Councillor for Community and Health, Cllr Ben Pitt, said: "It is wonderful to see a Community Chest Grant being used in this way for a Warm Space.
"DSM Dance with Lynne is something a bit different for our network of Warm Spaces, encouraging local residents to not only try a new activity, but meeting new members of their community whilst keeping fit and active. This class is making a positive difference to the local community."
