Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) will once again be supporting Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean litter picking campaign, including the introduction of the Big Bag Challenge.

This year’s litter picking campaign will run from 25 March 2022 until 10 April 2022 inviting residents up and down the country to act at the same time to make a big difference as Litter Heroes.

Executive Councillor for Operations and Environment, Cllr Marge Beuttell, said:

"Last year we supported 21 litter picks across the District during the Great British Spring Clean and we hope to support even more during this year’s campaign. The Great British Spring Clean allows us to highlight the magnificent work that already goes on throughout the year to keep our outdoor spaces clean, tidy, and accessible for local people as well as inviting volunteers to get involved."

The District Council is encouraging Huntingdonshire residents to get involved and pledge to take on the #BigBagChallenge to collect as much litter as they can during the time of the campaign, whether it be as an individual, in groups or as part of a local organisation. The District Council has supported 78 litter picks across Huntingdonshire in 2022.

If you would like to get involved in this year's Great British Spring Clean campaign and carry out a litter pick in your area, please contact the District Council at litterminimisation@huntingdonshire.gov.uk or by viewing our Community Litter Picks page. Huntingdonshire District Council will proudly support local litter picks and can arrange the provision of equipment, bags, and the collection of waste on completion.

All you need to do to get involved is make your pledge to join the community of #LitterHeroes at Keep Britain Tidy website and get going. You can also share photographs of your progress during the Great British Spring Clean on social media using the hashtag #GBSpringClean.
