In July, Huntingdonshire District Council welcomed three new refuse vehicles to the fleet. As a thank you to our residents for their support during the pandemic, we opened it up to the community of Huntingdonshire to name one of the vehicles.

We received over 300 suggestions from residents and after much deliberation, we whittled it down to 10 before being presented back to residents to choose their favourite. The winning name was ‘Litter Picking Lou’ nominated by Faith Haddox.

Faith chose this name as Lou is a St Neots superstar who helps keep the town litter-free. Even though he is young he sets an excellent example to all. Both Faith and Lou joined us on Friday 18 September for a ceremony to officially name our new refuse vehicle. Lou was also awarded a gold litter picker in appreciation for his commitment to looking after Huntingdonshire’s environment.

Cllr Marge Beuttell, Executive Councillor for Operations and Environment said: "Congratulations to Faith for winning our competition and putting forward the name of Litter Picking Lou. Also, a thank you to Lou for his hard work and commitment. The new vehicle will be out and about collecting recycling from homes in Huntingdonshire from this week, be sure to keep an eye out for it."
