Job details
Are you an experienced finance professional looking for a varied role where your work makes a tangible difference to local communities? We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our Planning Service, providing high-quality financial and accountancy support that helps deliver essential infrastructure and services across the district.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with financial data, managing budgets and collaborating with colleagues across multiple service areas. You will play a key role in ensuring financial information is accurate, timely and supports effective decision-making across the service.
About the role
As Finance Officer, you will provide finance and accountancy support to the team, taking the lead on financial processes within the Planning Service. You will be responsible for monitoring budgets, undertaking reconciliations, supporting year-end accounting activities and ensuring financial records are maintained accurately and efficiently.
Working closely with colleagues across Planning, Finance and other council services, you will oversee financial administration activities including invoicing, payment processing, creditor and debtor account management, and the use of the Council’s Financial Management System. You will analyse financial data, produce reports for managers and help provide the insight needed for budget planning and financial decision-making.
The role also offers the opportunity to support important planning functions, including the monitoring of developer contributions, responses to formal information requests and the production of the annual Infrastructure Funding Statement. This is a varied position where no two days are the same, and where strong organisation and attention to detail are highly valued.
About you
We are looking for a motivated and organised individual with experience working within a finance environment and a strong understanding of financial processes and reconciliations. You will have a good general education to A-Level standard or hold a full or part-qualified AAT qualification, along with experience using financial management systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
You will be comfortable analysing financial information, producing accurate reports and managing competing priorities to meet deadlines. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are proactive, accountable and customer focused, with a positive approach to change and a willingness to continually develop their knowledge and skills.
Experience or awareness of planning services would be beneficial, although it is not essential.
In return, you will join a supportive team environment within an organisation that values collaboration, respect, accountability, innovation and a commitment to excellent public service. If you are looking for a rewarding finance role where you can make a meaningful contribution to your community, we would love to hear from you.
An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
