Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.
Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.
At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.
Job details
Join us as a Support Officer in our Revenues and Benefits team, where you will be a key point of contact for customers needing help with Council Tax and Benefits.
About the role
As a Support Officer in our Revenues and Benefits team, you’ll be a friendly and knowledgeable first point of contact for customers who need help with Council Tax and Benefits.
You’ll spend much of your time speaking with customers by phone and email, answering questions, guiding them through applications and helping them understand the support available to them. Alongside this, you’ll make sure customer information is accurately recorded by scanning, indexing and updating documents and managing system uploads.
You’ll work closely with your colleagues to keep cases moving smoothly and to provide a reliable, high-quality service. This is a varied and rewarding role where what you do each day genuinely makes a difference to the people who live and work in our district.
About you
You’re a people‑person who enjoys helping others and takes pride in delivering great customer service.
You communicate clearly and warmly, both on the phone and in writing and you stay calm and patient when conversations are challenging. You’re comfortable using IT systems, enjoy being organised and pay close attention to detail even when things are busy.
You’re adaptable, keen to learn and confident using your judgement to resolve issues. Experience in a customer‑facing role is essential and, while knowledge of Council Tax or Benefits would be helpful, full training will be provided. Most importantly, you’re a team player who shares our values and wants to make a positive impact.
This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. HDC does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
