Making polling stations a safe place to visit

We are putting arrangements in place to help ensure polling stations are safe place to vote.

You can expect many of the measures you've become used to in recent months in shops and banks, such as hand sanitiser, screening, one-way systems, floor markings and face coverings.

You may be asked to queue outside the polling station so that staff can monitor the number of people in the premises at one time. You can also bring along your own pen or pencil.

Proxy voting

If you are shielding, vulnerable or would just prefer not to go to the polling station, you can apply for  a proxy vote (where someone votes on your behalf). The deadline for a postal vote has now passed.

You must be registered to vote to apply for a proxy vote (so must your proxy).

You can download a proxy vote form. Once you have completed the form and signed it, you need to send it to the Electoral Team via:

If you do not have online access please call 01480 388017 for a proxy form to be sent to you.

If you would like to apply for a proxy vote, this means someone voting on your behalf, the deadline for applying for a new proxy arrangement is 5pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021.

For further information on proxy voting or download a voter registration form on the Electoral Commission's website.

Royal Mail is encouraging postal voters to make use of their priority postboxes that will offer an enhanced collection service for mail. You can find details of where to find a priority box in your area on the Royal Mail's website

If you already have a proxy application in place you do not need to apply again.
