Housing benefit for private renting tenants

Housing benefit for private-renting tenants will be set at either the actual rent charged or at the Local Housing Allowance rate for your household’s circumstances, whichever is the lower figure. The rate is based on the number of people in your household and their ages. It can be reduced depending on your household’s income, savings and other circumstances.

The Local Housing Allowance rates are set by the Valuation Agency on 1 April every year.
