Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC), in collaboration with Wild About Huntingdon, is pleased to announce a Community Tree Planting Day is scheduled for Thursday 15 February. This event is set to take place at Sapley Playing Field in Huntingdon, between 10am and 2pm.
The initiative, sponsored by HDC, aims to bring the community together in a collective effort to enhance the local environment and promote biodiversity. The highlight of the day will be the planting of 420 whips, contributing to the growth of a sustainable and vibrant ecosystem in the heart of Huntingdon.
Executive Councillor for Leisure, Waste and Street Scene, Cllr Simone Taylor, said: "Initiatives like this Community Tree Planting Day are a great opportunity for our residents and communities to shape their environment. The planting will not only contribute to increased biodiversity on site but also bring our communities together to leave a legacy for future families of Huntingdonshire."
The 420 whips, consisting of various native species including hazel and hawthorn, will not only add to the aesthetic appeal of the area, but also bring about a myriad of environmental benefits. As these trees mature, they will provide essential habitats for local wildlife, creating a thriving ecosystem right in the heart of our community.
