Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC), in collaboration with Wild About Huntingdon, is pleased to invite residents to a Community Planting Day on Friday 15 March from 10.30am at Riverside Park, Huntingdon.
The initiative, sponsored by HDC and funded by the Together For Our Planet Fund, aims to bring the community together in a collective effort to enhance the local environment and promote biodiversity, a key priority for the council's climate strategy. The day will consist of planting 830 perennial flowers, including the Echinacea Purpurea, Geranium Rozanne and Rudbeckia.
Executive Councillor for Leisure, Waste and Street Scene, Cllr Simone Taylor, said: "We'd love to see as many residents as possible at this planting event at Huntingdon Riverside Park! It's a fantastic chance for our community to unite and enhance this well-loved local park.
"Initiatives like this align with the council's Corporate Plan and give us an opportunity to make a significant impact on biodiversity, as well as creating a space which attracts visitors and somewhere residents are proud to call home."
Founder of Wild About Huntingdon, Steph, said: "One of the aims of 'Wild About Huntingdon' is to improve the local environment for nature, for wildlife and for ourselves. This collaborative planting will support all kinds of wildlife - such as bees, other pollinators, and birds - within a few weeks and for many years to come. And, of course, being out in nature is also good for us too!
"It's great to be able to work with Huntingdonshire District Council on these projects as together we can achieve so much more in a shorter space of time."
Tools will be provided but we ask that volunteers wear suitable clothing and bring their own food and drink to take park. If you’re interested in taking part, just visit the park on 15 March from 10.30am.
