Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) will host an open ‘Be a Councillor’ event for anyone interested in standing for election and serving their community as a District Councillor. The session will take place on Tuesday 9 December 2025 at 7pm in the Civic Suite, Pathfinder House, Huntingdon.

With District Council elections scheduled for 7 May 2026, the event aims to encourage residents to explore what being a local councillor involves. Attendees will hear presentations from the Chief Executive, the Executive Leader, and senior officers, covering topics such as how the Council operates, how decisions are made, and the importance of the Councillor Code of Conduct.

There will also be guidance on the election and nomination process, along with information about the training and support available to councillors once elected. Although the event is non-political, representatives from a range of political parties will be present to offer informal advice. Information will also be provided for those considering standing as an Independent candidate.

Executive Councillor for Governance and Democratic Services, Cllr Jo Harvey, said: “Being a councillor is an incredibly rewarding way to make a difference in your community. We want to ensure that anyone who feels they could bring commitment, insight, and passion to the role has the information and support they need to take the next step. This event is a chance to learn more, ask questions, and discover whether standing for election in 2026 could be right for you.”
