Huntingdonshire District Council’s Development Management Committee has approved planning permission for the new Huntingdon Sport and Health Hub at a meeting on Monday 16 February.
Planning approval, subject to conditions and an impact assessment certificate, follows extensive work through RIBA Stages 1 and 2 and collaboration with strategic partners such as Huntingdon Town Council, Alliance Leisure, the CAM Academy Trust, the NHS Integrated Care Board and sporting organisations.
The project aims to help tackle the shortage of swimming and fitness provision across the district and make it easier for people of all ages to stay active locally.
Cllr Sally Howell, Executive Member for Communities, Health and Leisure, said: “We are delighted that the Development Management Committee has supported this transformational project. This marks a key step in delivering high quality leisure, health and wellbeing facilities that meet the needs of our communities today and for future generations.”
The next step is for funding for the project to be agreed as part of the council’s budget which goes to Full Council on Wednesday 25 February.
