Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is pleased to announce recent upgrades to the popular Riverside Skate Park ramps.
Funded by HDC, St Neots Town Council, the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner, The Rotary Club of St Neots St Mary’s and community group Revamp the Ramp. The improvements include new lighting and resurfacing, ensuring the park remains a destination for residents across Huntingdonshire and beyond.
Executive Councillor for Parks and Countryside, Waste and Street Scene, Cllr Simone Taylor, said: “We’re thrilled to see the upgrades at St Neots Skate Park completed. Safe, accessible spaces like this are vital for our community, offering people of all ages a dedicated place to play, practice, and connect with others. This skate park has always been a beloved spot in St Neots, and these improvements ensure it remains a welcoming and safe destination for skaters, riders, and families to enjoy for years to come.”
Sam Curtin, Revamp the Ramp, said: “The St Neots skatepark has been a staple facility for people of all ages since 1989. It has its own community where everyone looks out for each other and passes on skills of all extreme sport disciplines down the generations.
“It has been a huge help for mental wellbeing and helps youngsters learn valuable social skills. We must continue to look after and preserve this great, competition standard and free skatepark.”
Pete King, Director of King Ramps, the contractor for the project, shared: “We were approached a few years back about the feasibility of bringing St Neots skate park back to life by removing the many layers of build-up paint on the ramps surfaces that made the ramps sluggish slow and disappointing.
Thanks to the persistence of a group of local skate park users the funding was made available to allow us to carry out the rather grueling task of removing all paint, from all the riding surfaces throughout the entire skate park to bring the ramps back to their original condition. With St Neots skate park being such a unique and really well used and appreciated facility, it was nice to play a role in assuring the ramps are safe, smooth and ready to be enjoyed for the next decade."
