Huntingdonshire District Council has welcomed the news that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has been awarded Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) status by VisitEngland - a development that will bring significant opportunities for Huntingdonshire and the wider region.
The application was led by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) and supported by partners across the region including Huntingdonshire District Council, Discover St Neots, Discover Huntingdon. It brings together local authorities, destination organisations, businesses and cultural partners to create a more joined-up approach to tourism and economic growth.
Being part of an LVEP places Huntingdonshire at the heart of a nationally recognised network designed to grow and promote the visitor economy. For local businesses, attractions and communities, this means greater visibility, improved access to funding and support, and stronger collaboration across the region.
LVEPs are part of a national framework led by VisitEngland, a framework that provides support and promotion for local tourism businesses, to help improve visitor experiences and strengthen the case for future funding and investment.
The visitor economy in Huntingdonshire supports local jobs and businesses, and this new partnership will provide further opportunities to attract visitors, boost local high streets, and support growth within the district.
Councillor Brett Mickelburgh, Executive Councillor for Economy, Regeneration & Housing said "Huntingdonshire is something of a hidden gem. Our outstanding history, landscapes and communities make us a destination worthy of national recognition. LVEP status gives us the national platform to work alongside the Combined Authority to show we can be a destination of choice and we intend to make the most of it to bring real visibility, real investment and real opportunities for our businesses and communities.”
Huntingdonshire District Council is committed to working closely with partners to ensure the district plays a strong role in shaping the future of the visitor economy across the region. For residents and businesses alike, the LVEP designation represents an opportunity to boost economic growth, create jobs and strengthen the area's reputation as a high-quality destination to live, work and visit.
