People & Communities

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) has secured funding, from a range of sources, to support investment across the District. Projects range from substantial transformational schemes at an individual town level, to the funding of community events at locations throughout the district. Our programme of investment will benefit local people, businesses and visitors.

Vibrant communities

The purpose of this fund is to help our towns and large village centres become more vibrant places. A number of activities have been delivered across the district during 2023, including events to celebrate the King's Coronation, with more to come throughout the rest of the year and into 2024.

Activities which can be delivered using these funds include, for example, marketing and promotion of events, local museums or any activities designed to encourage people to visit local businesses and/or support cultural events. The funding can also be used to deliver new events, for example, summer fayres, specialist markets, and Christmas activities, or it can help to expand and improve existing events.

Digital information screens

CPCA funding has been secured to install and maintain digital information screens in each of our market towns: Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives and St Neots. The screens will be used to promote our town centre businesses, heritage and events in an interactive and engaging way.

We are working alongside Connecting Cambridgeshire, the town councils, Huntingdon BID and key community groups to agree on functionality, locations and content, with delivery planned during 2024.

Smarter Towns

Smarter Towns aims to establish a communications infrastructure that facilitates the collection of raw data relating to matters such as flood risks, pollution, and others. The current proposal is to roll out the project across Huntingdon, Ramsey, and St Ives.

Work on the Smarter Towns project commenced in September 2022, with completion scheduled for late 2023. This project will be delivered in collaboration with Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, Cambridgeshire County Council, and Connecting Cambridgeshire.

UKSPF

Huntingdonshire District Council has secured funding through the government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund to support several projects (including Vibrant Communities above) across the district.
