Action on Energy grants for low-income households
Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is part of the Action on Energy partnership, alongside the other district councils in Cambridgeshire, as well as Cambridgeshire County Council. HDC is an administrator in this process and aims to provide access to help low-income households install energy-efficiency improvements and low-carbon heating.
The current available grant is the Warm Homes Local Grant. More information on this grant can be found on the Action On Energy Website.
Update on the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) and Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO4 & ECO4 Flex)
There have been a lot of changes recently relating to grant-funded energy efficiency schemes, GBIs, ECO and ECO4 Flex. These schemes have closed as of 31 March 2026, but there is still help available to eligible residents via the Warm Homes Local Grant Funding Page.
HDC, as part of the Action on Energy partnership, is still awaiting further details about the recently announced Warm Homes Plan. This was a government announcement stipulating £15 billion of public investment to upgrade up to 5 million homes, aiming to lift 1 million families out of fuel poverty by 2030.
Need a new boiler?
Through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you could get a grant to cover part of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with a heat pump or biomass boiler. Fossil fuel heating systems include oil, gas or electric.

General conditions
HDC accepts no liability under the Warm Homes Local Grant scheme and remains impartial throughout the entirety of the process.
HDC does not endorse any installer company. Installer companies are private businesses registered with TrustMark, certification bodies, and grant funders to deliver works under the Warm Homes Local Grant scheme.
We only carry out application verification checks for eligible residents to ensure installers working in our region under the schemes are fully compliant.
Complaints
Any complaints or issues regarding the Warm Homes Local Grant or prior schemes should, in the first instance, be referred back to the installer company. The installer company has a standard complaints procedure which they must follow to address the complaint.
